Greens host a Day of Action to save the greenbelt and stop Highway 413
Fifty volunteers in five communities across Parry Sound, Muskoka and the Almaguin Highlands joined in a province-wide Day of Action to Save the Greenbelt and Stop Highway 413.
Over 830 local citizens signed petitions Saturday calling on the Doug Ford government to halt the destruction of the Greenbelt, cancel Hwy 413 and stop Bill 23 --The Build More Homes Faster Act. All three are widely under attack as an assault on environmental protections.
Huntsville volunteer Paul Kuebler said, "People get it that opening protected agricultural land, forests and wetlands will impact our food security and our climate future. More than one person said that once we bulldoze it, we can't get it back!"
The group says Bill 23 also undermines local democratic responsibility for land use planning. Gravenhurst volunteer Lois Cooper says “And it will lead to higher property taxes.”
The Provincial Day of Action was spearheaded by the Green Party of Ontario with the Parry Sound-Muskoka Constituency Association organizing local outreach in Burks Falls, Huntsville, Gravenhurst, Parry Sound and Bracebridge.
