MAHC offering Indigenous Patient Navigator Services
Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare (MAHC) say they are working to improve care closer to home in the communities we serve by introducing two new providers dedicated to better supporting specific patient populations.
Through a partnership with the Barrie Area Native Advisory Circle, the MAHC is bringing Indigenous Patient Navigator services to patients at the South Muskoka Memorial Hospital. In an Indigenous Patient Navigator role, Navigators act as a supportive liaison for Indigenous patients and their families with the care teams. The MAHC says they are available to also coordinate traditional ceremonies and connections with Elders.
President & CEO Cheryl Harrison says culturally appropriate and relevant care is an important part of the recovery process, saying “I am proud of this important step forward to improve the care experience for our patients.”
