George's Spaghetti House Jazz
Get your swing on every Sunday evening at 8 to 11 pm with Canadian Jazz icons and International Jazz stars. Bebop your way on Hunter’s Bay…Radio that’s hip.
Ken grew up in Toronto, working in his father’s restaurants: George’s Spaghetti House, Basin Street and Bourbon Street. Soulful and swinging tunes were the background to his childhood. Working in the clubs, providing him with an insider’s perspective and window on the jazz scene at a particular time in Canadian history. All the greats, The Jazz Artists, from the 1930s to the 1980s came to play: Dextor Gordon, Stan Getz, Chet Baker, the Marsalis Brothers, Kathryn Moses, and Dizzy Gillespie; they were just some of the artists booked in that week. The house band was led by the late, great Moe Koffman. Ken was there to take care of them all.
George’s Spaghetti House Jazz on Hunter’s Bay Radio began as a show hosted by Jesse Cole, Ken’s journalist son, sharing some of the family’s special stories and his own love of his family’s history and Jazz. When Jesse left Muskoka, he passed the mic to Ken. Ken delights in sharing his passion for jazz, his firsthand experience and stories about the music and the players. He chooses the music to play based on curated pieces, extracted from the collection of his father, Doug Cole, the original Jazz empresario.
Ken appreciates you spending Sunday evenings with him, slowing down a bit, getting into the groove, letting the music take you.
