Friends of Muskoka Watershed holds ash collection event on Saturday
This Saturday marks the final ash collection day until fall for Friends of the Muskoka Watershed. With over 4000 kg of ash donated this year, the total is expected to rise with Saturday’s collection.
Ash should be dropped off at the Rosewarne landfill/transfer station in Bracebridge from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Since 2019, the organization has collected over 36,000 kg of woodstove and fireplace ash to protect Muskoka’s watershed.
The ash is used for research with Trent University and to restore Muskoka forests, as it's rich in nutrients. Ash application neutralizes soil acidity, promotes tree vitality, and aids flood mitigation.
