Muskoka Lakes working with MNRF to manage high water levels

Posted: 2024-04-19 14:25:40 By: thebay

The Township of Muskoka Lakes is actively coordinating with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) regarding rising water levels and the MNRF has proactively operated the dams at Bala to manage forecasted rainfall and is collaborating with Swift River Energy Limited to safely pass maximum water levels.

The municipality is advising residents to secure items near the water's edge and in lower levels of boat houses to prevent damage. Disconnecting boathouses from electrical supply and securing docks susceptible to floating away is also recommended.

For properties in flood-prone areas using well water, it's assumed the water may not be safe to drink. Additional information on private water during and after floods is available on the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit website.

Any concerns regarding water levels should be directed to the MNRF Water Management Team at 705-645-8747 or via email at watermanagement.psdistrict@ontario.ca.
