Willie Nelson returns to the road this July for a 12-city summer tour featuring Sheryl Crow, Wilco, and The Avett Brothers

The Highwayman isn’t hanging up his hat just yet. As he moves through his early 90s, Willie Nelson continues to prove that the road is still very much home.

His Outlaw Music Festival Tour, now firmly into its second decade, has become one of the most reliable summer traditions in American music. Since launching in 2016, the traveling show has built a reputation for mixing generations and genres, bringing together country, folk, rock, and Americana under one banner that still feels a little rebellious.

The 2026 tour dates start on July 3rd and run through August 30th, with no Canadian dates scheduled. Each year, Nelson headlines a rotating lineup that typically features a mix of legends and newer voices. Past editions have included artists like Sheryl Crow, Wilco, The Avett Brothers, Margo Price, and Billy Strings, all of whom fit naturally into the tour’s wide musical lane.

For Nelson, the appeal has never really changed. He’s spent the better part of seven decades onstage, and even now, his performances carry the same loose, lived-in feel that defined the outlaw movement in the first place. The shows aren’t about polish. They’re about connection.

A typical set still plays like a living archive of American songwriting. “On the Road Again” remains the mission statement, “Always on My Mind” brings the quiet reflection, and “Whiskey River” still opens the door the same way it has for decades.

Even as the pace of touring has slowed in recent years, Nelson hasn’t stepped away from recording. He continues to release new music regularly, adding to a catalog that already ranks among the largest in popular music.

If and when the Outlaw tour rolls again in 2026, it won’t just be another series of shows. It’ll be a continuation of something that’s outlasted trends, formats, and just about every version of the music industry.

And when the lights go down and that familiar band walks onstage, the message tends to land the same way every time. The outlaw spirit isn’t something you look back on. It’s still out there, rolling down the highway.
