“How to Write a Bestselling Novel,” is designed for writers across all genres who want to deepen their storytelling and create emotionally resonant narratives. Drawing on her experience as a journalist and award-winning author, Sanders will guide participants through the delicate balance of weaving historical detail without overwhelming character or plot.
Participants will take part in two in-session writing exercises focused on strengthening emotional depth through voice, conflict, intuition, and dialogue. A thoughtfully designed take-home exercise will further support writers in developing a compelling character arc—one that reflects meaningful interior growth as the story unfolds.
Shelly Sanders is the acclaimed author of bestselling novels including The Night Sparrow and Daughters of the Occupation, as well as three celebrated young adult titles. Her forthcoming novel, The Night Witches, will be published by HarperCollins on November 10, 2026. Known for her authenticity and emotional depth, Sanders has contributed essays to leading literary platforms such as Writer’s Digest and LitHub, and has led workshops at respected institutions including the Virginia Holocaust Museum. She has also been recognized with a fellowship at the Ventspils International Writer’s and Translators’ House.
Whether you’re beginning your writing journey or refining a manuscript, this workshop offers a rare opportunity to learn from a master storyteller dedicated to illuminating the human heart within history.
