Scammers pressure victims with urgency, fear, and secrecy, asking for wire transfers, gift cards, or cash. Experts say to hang up, verify the story with family, and never send money to unknown contacts.
If you suspect fraud or have been targeted, contact your local police and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501. Police remind you to stay vigilant and protect yourself this holiday season.
