Andy's House extends hospice care

Thursday, 12 March 2026 08:05

The new palliative care program will be offered at home, allowing end of life care in the comfort of their own homes

Hospice Muskoka is expanding access to palliative care through its Andy’s House at Home program, helping residents receive end-of-life support in the comfort of their own homes.

The program provides specialized palliative care through in-home visits and virtual support, all fully covered by OHIP.

A nurse practitioner oversees pain and symptom management with 24-hour support available when needed.

Hospice Muskoka says the program works closely with community paramedics, local doctors, Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare and other partners to ensure coordinated care.

Since launching in August of last year, 50 people have been admitted to the program, helping many avoid trips to the emergency department or hospital stays.

Hospice officials say the approach supports patients and families while also easing pressure on the healthcare system.
