The Fire Dept. says the home didn't have working smoke alarms
A fire in Huntsville Wednesday morning sent one elderly resident to hospital with smoke inhalation.
The blaze broke out on Line Hill Road around 9:30 a.m., starting in a living room wicker basket. Firefighters say the home had no working smoke alarms, leaving occupants without early warning.
Three adults and two cats were inside, and the fire caused an estimated $8,000 in damage.
Fire officials stress the importance of having at least one working smoke alarm on every level, and offer free home fire safety checks to residents.
