Huntsville is making changes to Short Term Rental rules

Monday, 11 August 2025 10:21

Some areas will not be permitted to have new short term rentals

The Town of Huntsville is updating rules for short-term rentals to boost long-term housing and improve community safety.

The town says that effective immediately, short-term rental owners must have owned their property for at least a year before renting it out, with some exemptions for current license holders. The town has also capped short-term rental licenses at 250 units, issuing them on a first-come, first-served basis.

Enforcement changes now allow three strikes over two years before a license can be revoked, aiming to reduce repeat violations.

Additionally, short-term rentals will soon be banned in certain low-density residential areas, although existing rentals there may continue.
