The project will add accessible playgrounds, a skate and bike park, and upgraded sports facilities for the whole community.
The Ontario government is making a $500,000 investment to revitalize Croft Recreation Park in Ahmic Harbour, part of a broader $200 million initiative to upgrade community sports and recreation facilities across the province.
The funding will be used to refurbish the baseball diamond, upgrade the playground with new accessible equipment, and add a skate, bike, and pump park to create a more inclusive space for all ages.
Parry Sound–Muskoka MPP Graydon Smith said the investment will make a direct impact on local families. “Our government continues to support municipalities to provide spaces where their residents can get active,” Smith said. “This project will enhance recreational activities at the park to ensure that there is something for everyone. Thank you to the Ministry of Sport for seeing the value in the project and thank you to the Municipality of Magnetawan for making it a priority for your residents.”
The investment comes through the Community Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Fund (CSRIF), which supports municipalities across Ontario in improving local amenities while encouraging active living.
Neil Lumsden, Ontario’s Minister of Sport, said the provincial government sees the investment as part of its plan to strengthen communities while helping families cope with rising costs. “With investments in infrastructure like this, we are protecting Ontario jobs, strengthening our communities and building a more resilient and self-reliant economy,” he said.
For the Municipality of Magnetawan, the project represents more than just infrastructure. Mayor Sam Dunnett said the new and improved facilities will help foster connection and inclusion. “This much needed investment will enhance recreational opportunities for families, youth, and visitors, while strengthening the sense of community that makes Magnetawan such a special place,” Dunnett said.
Work on the park will begin in the months ahead, with local leaders calling the investment a generational project that will give Ahmic Harbour residents and visitors a place to gather, stay active, and build community pride.
