Council voted for increases of over 10% plus other benefits for the next council term
The Township of Lake of Bays Council approved a salary increase for Council members for the 2026-2030 term, in the October 14, 2025, meeting.
According to the staff report, the Deputy Mayor will receive a 10.39% increase in salary to $32,782, and Councillor members will each receive a 11.34% increase to $28,253.
In addition to the salary increases, the mayor will be provided with a corporate cell phone, and each Councillor will also receive a $500 per year stipend (with $1,200 in the first year) for IT costs and include “a more strategic and beneficial approach for council members including computers and a more comprehensive IT coverage,” adds the report.
Staff indicated that they evaluated salaries from other area municipalities in Muskoka, and Algonquin Highlands, Penetanguishene, Wasaga Beach and Sequin.
They reported, “As Council approved the 60th percentile for employee job rates this year, it is recommended that members of Council salaries also reflect the same percentile in this analysis.”
They continued, “This reflects a progressive approach in aligning job rates with an evolving and competitive pay market with the term of Council.”
Councillor, Mike Peppard, recommended they increase the health and dental benefits from $1,000 per year to $2,000.
Mayor, Terry Glover, clarified that “Council did not vote themselves a raise,” as the increases will be for next term.
A new remuneration by-law will be created for and presented to Council for adoption in the upcoming November 11th meeting.
