The Town of Bracebridge did not qualify for free disposal and it cost the municipality $18,000
The District of Muskoka agreed to extend the deadline for the Flood Debris Disposal Voucher program, in the May 19, 2026, Council meeting.
In their update to Council about waste management, they indicated that the Voucher program has been met with 77 requests, 53 pick ups, and about 25 redeemed so far.
On their Spring Flooding – 2026 page, they explain, “Eligible residential property owners may receive a single-use physical voucher to dispose of one load of flood-damaged residential debris without tipping fees.”
They outline program conditions as allowing one voucher per residential property, valid for one trip, presented prior to unloading which will be collected by staff at that time, and the voucher must be picked up in person or by an authorized representative.
Pick up locations include 70 Pine Street during regular business hours and Rosewarne Landfill during selected times that are outlined in the application process.
Staff added that the timeline allowed for residents to manage debris and include flood waste isn’t enough and requested that Council approve extending the program for an additional month – from the end of May to June 29th.
Councillor, Brian Bochek, indicated that there was also a length restriction for “what’s taken to transfer stations, especially storm damage and flooding.” He said 4 feet in length was allowed and requested if they can increase that as well.
Staff advised that they are using a third-party facility for receiving it, rather than it going in the land fill, therefore, “it’s limited to a single load.”
Councillor, Rick Maloney, shared that there was a lot of debris at the snowmobile bridge in Bracebridge “not from residents of Bracebridge and not eligible for the program.” He said it cost the town $18,000 for the tipping fees.
Chair, Jeff Lehman, indicated, “It’s worth considering next time.”
