The renaming will reflect indigenous history and culture
A Muskoka road linking Moose Deer Point First Nation to Highway 400 is expected to receive a new name by late 2026 or early 2027.
The District of Muskoka, Moose Deer Point First Nation, and the Township of Georgian Bay are working together on the renaming of Twelve Mile Bay Road as part of broader reconciliation efforts.
Community members from Moose Deer Point will be consulted before proposed names move through council for approval.
The road will keep its number, Muskoka Road 12, while gaining a name that reflects Indigenous history and culture.
