Officials say the changes have added years to the life of the landfill
District councillors heard about strong results from the first year of the District’s clear bag program.
Since last March, more than 336,000 garbage bags have been eliminated, cutting curbside waste by 37 per cent and boosting organics collection by 80 per cent — almost 1,300 tons diverted from the landfill.
Officials say the program could extend the life of the Roswearne Landfill by two years, reduce CO2 emissions by 1,100 tons, and is already turning waste into compost.
Councillors praised the team’s efforts, calling the results “incredible” and a win for both taxpayers and the environment.
