Firefighters from Huntsville/Lake of Bays, Bracebridge, Georgian Bay and MNR water bombers assisted
Fire crews continue to battle a wildfire north of Beiers Road in Gravenhurst that started Monday afternoon.
Mayor Heidi Lorenz praised the collaborative effort, noting firefighters from Gravenhurst, Muskoka Lakes, Bracebridge, Huntsville/Lake of Bays, and Georgian Bay, along with support from the Ministry of Natural Resources, have been on scene. Water bombers dropped water from Morrison Lake, while crews tackled hot spots on foot due to the remote terrain.
Deputy Fire Chief Todd Clapp says the 3.25-hectare fire is expected to be fully extinguished in the next few days, with no threat to nearby structures. The blaze is believed to have been sparked by an unattended cooking fire, and the investigation is ongoing.
