The man left the fire un-attended only to reignite
A Gravenhurst cottage owner has been fined more than 5,700 dollars after an unsafe burn sparked a wildland fire on Gull Lake in 2025.
Court heard the fire began after debris was burned on the forest floor and left unattended. It later reignited during hot, dry conditions, growing out of control and threatening nearby cottages and causing a power outage.
The individual pleaded guilty to failing to tend a fire under the Forest Fires Prevention Act.
Officials are again reminding residents to follow all burning regulations during high fire risk conditions.
