The initiative is part of a plan to streamline the building of secondary units and increase rental units
The Town of Huntsville is calling on designers to submit plans for Secondary Residential Dwelling Units (SRDUs), part of a new program aimed at easing the local housing crunch.
These small, self-contained units — such as garden suites or basement apartments — are viewed as a cost-effective way to expand rental options. By offering pre-approved designs with complete permit documentation, Huntsville hopes to make the process simpler for homeowners and ensure consistent quality across projects.
Designers whose submissions are chosen will also benefit from royalties or licensing fees, creating a long-term incentive to contribute.
Expressions of interest are due October 31 at 1:00 p.m. EST. Details are available at huntsville.ca.
