The road is being rehabilitated and council is considering additional changes before the work begins
Huntsville Council agreed to consider a three-way stop and traffic calming measures at the Chaffey Township Road and Highview Drive intersection, in the March 23, 2026, meeting.
Staff brought forward a proposed bylaw amendment following a request from residents in the area who have asked for the intersection to be converted into a three-way stop.
Councillor, Cory Clarke, spoke on behalf of residents that have expressed concern about the safety of pedestrians in the area. He said, “Now that the road is being redone, I thought it would be a good time to bring this request to Council for discussion.”
He added, “A three-way stop would be another layer of safety for this area of homes for the residents walking from Highview. There will be a lot of residents that will walk from Highview to use the new sidewalk.” He said there will also be 2-3 apartment buildings there, plans of a subdivision “close to coming,” in addition to approved town homes.
According to the agenda, currently, a stop sign has already been installed for northbound traffic on Highview Drive at the intersection. However, the proposed change would formalize additional traffic controls by including stop signs for both eastbound and westbound traffic on Chaffey Township Road at Highview Drive creating a full three-way stop at the intersection.
