OPP say a 19% increase in deaths can be connected to victims not being secured in a vehicle
The OPP is urging motorists to buckle up, saying seatbelt use remains one of the most effective ways to prevent serious injury or death in collisions.
Police say nearly one in four fatal crashes they investigate involves someone who was not wearing a seatbelt.
So far this year, officers report a 19 per cent increase in fatal collisions involving unrestrained occupants compared to the same period last year, including cases involving improperly secured children.
OPP are reminding drivers that they are responsible for ensuring all passengers under 16 are properly restrained, and that children use the correct car seat or booster seat based on their size and age.
Officers say consistent seatbelt use remains a key factor in preventing avoidable road fatalities.
