The municipality has taken over the market for 2026, hoping to find a new organizer for next year
The Township of Lake of Bays Council agreed to update the by-law to include vendor fees and charges for the Baysville Farmer’s Market, in the March 10, 2026, meeting.
According to the report, the by-law is “to establish and regulate a Farmers’ and Crafters’ Market.”
Last month staff indicated they’re seeking new community partner to take over the market because those previously managing it pulled out.
Staff indicated there was a potential for it to end if the Township didn’t step in. The said, “We’ll do our best to keep it and give the opportunity for a group to come forward to manage it to preserve something that brings a lot of people in the community.”
The added that it will be extended for a 3-year term and moved to “the core of Town,” near the library and community centre for greater exposure.
According to the staff report, the Township will operate the market at the Lake of Bays Community Centre during the 2026 season, beginning June 26 until September 4, on Fridays, with proposed hours of 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and the option to extend to 7 p.m. if vendor demand supports it.
Staff estimate revenue of approximately $2,750 in the 2026 season based on ten vendors, which is expected to cover staff time required to operate it without negatively impacting the municipal budget.
Vendor fees have been set at $275 for the season or $30 per pre-booked date, with additional fees for electrical sites.
Today staff indicated that the vendor number has climbed to 33, “with more applications coming.”
They added, “People are very exited that we’re bringing the market back to the village. The community seems to be really excited.”
The by-law was confirmed as establishing rules and guidelines for the market, in addition to the amendments to the Township's Fees and Charges By-law.
