LiveBarn coming to the Canada Summit Centre

Friday, 27 February 2026 08:45

The system will allow for video streaming from the arenas

Huntsville General Committee agreed to enter into agreement with LiveBarn for arena sports events, in the February 25, 2026, meeting.

Last September a representative of the Huntsville Girls Hockey Association (HGHA) approached the Town about installing the LiveBarn video streaming platform for recording sports events at both arenas in the Canada Summit Centre, at no cost to the municipality.

Committee postponed the decision at that time and directed staff to investigate a cost recovery model including have organizations pay a user fees to use the LiveBarn service.

The staff report indicated that the agreement allows a video camera placed in each arena and controlled by staff to ensure it’s not left on. This is imperative because of an incident in the City of Waterloo where cameras were left on from May until July and recorded other events such as their Youth Day Camp.

The September report also indicated that LiveBarn stipulated that the Town promote the company in exchange for a 20% commission of public memberships, on the condition that their code be used for it to be applicable.

It adds, “The highest revenue from a municipality to date has been approximately $2,000/year. Some Towns do not receive revenue. The more you market the greater chance of a return for LiveBarn.”

However, today, Greg Piling, Manager of Facility Operations, Sales and Customer Service, said that Niagara on the Lakes, a Town with comparable population of almost 20,000, collected $250 per month since using LiveBarn last August.

Staff have also approached HGHA about increasing organization fees, however, were told the organization wants to keep the fees as low as possible to make registration affordable and if they are increased, they preferred that the platform not be installed. So, staff did not proceed with increasing user fees.

Staff also reported that “commencing with the 2027 budget, the part-time Customer Service Representative budget be increased by 56 hours at the cost of $1,600 and that the corresponding LiveBarn revenue be included in the 2027 budget to offset this expense.”

It continues that LiveBarn will only be used during the HGHA season from October until March and throughout the playoffs, totalling approximately 28 weeks per year, and require 2 hours a week in administrative time.

Piling also confirmed that the platform would also be available for more groups to use and “will help increase our revenue without impact on management.”
