Morrison launched his campaign for mayor this week
Mayoral hopeful Scott Morrison is promising major changes to a flood-prone commercial area in Huntsville if he is elected, saying he intends to redevelop Brendale Square and eliminate what residents have dubbed “Beer Lake.”
Morrison officially launched his campaign this week, telling supporters at a packed event that he has already begun discussions with stakeholders about fixing long-standing flooding and infrastructure issues at the site.
The proposed redevelopment would include flood mitigation work and potential new public amenities such as green space, a skating rink, and a farmers’ market, though Morrison says community input would still shape any final design.
