The association says changes to water management practices are needed to reduce flooding
The Muskoka Lakes Association is urging the Ontario government to take stronger action following this year’s property-damaging floods.
The association is calling for a public meeting on flood causes, faster remediation of damaged areas, and renewed progress on the Muskoka River Watershed Management Plan review first recommended after the 2013 flooding event.
It is also pushing for changes to water management practices, including earlier spring drawdowns, upgrades to dam and diversion systems, and increased upstream water storage capacity.
The group says urgent provincial action is needed to reduce future flood risks in the region.
