The initiative aims to improve safety for swimmers and paddlers and reduce damage to shorelines
A new campaign is being launched aimed at encouraging safer, lower-impact wake boating on lakes and waterways. Safe Quiet Lakes and the Safe Wakes Coalition say they’re rolling out an education initiative focused on wake surfing and other wake-enhanced activities, which are growing in popularity.
The guidance encourages boaters to stay at least 250 metres from shore and structures, operate in water at least nine metres deep, and leave enough open space for safe riding conditions. Organizers say the goal is to reduce shoreline erosion, protect water quality and improve safety for swimmers and paddlers.
The campaign will include maps, marina partnerships and outreach programs throughout the boating season.
