A new Parry Sound elementary school will carry the name of Francis Pegahmagabow
A new elementary school in Parry Sound will be named in honour of Francis Pegahmagabow, a highly decorated Anishinaabe soldier from the First World War.
Education Minister Paul Calandra and local MPP Graydon Smith made the announcement on social media yesterday.
Pegahmagabow was also a respected community leader and advocate. Officials say the school’s name recognizes his legacy and the contributions of Indigenous people to the Parry Sound area, with his story set to be shared with students for generations to come.
