Punchard competed in Italy on the weekend
A young mountain bike racer from Novar is celebrating a major international achievement. Cole Punchard has won a bronze medal in the elite men's cross-country mountain biking event at the World Championships in Val di Sole, Italy.
Punchard made a remarkable charge from 27th on the starting grid and briefly took the lead before finishing just 31 seconds behind the winner.
He's only the third Canadian man ever to reach the podium in this world championship event, putting the 22-year-old firmly in the conversation for Canada's 2028 Olympic team.
