One operator was given a three day licence suspension
Police say marine patrols over the weekend turned up multiple safety violations on local waterways.
Officers laid charges against several boaters for not carrying enough lifejackets, while others were ticketed under the Canada Shipping Act and one operator was caught with alcohol on board. In one case, a jet ski without navigation lights led to a roadside breath test and a three-day licence suspension.
Police are reminding boaters that wearing a lifejacket can save lives and that impaired operation on the water carries the same risks and penalties as on the road.
