The changes aim to boost police presence in the park
The Ontario Provincial Police are realigning their operations in Algonquin Park to improve public safety.
Effective April 8, 2026, the Huntsville Detachment will handle the west side of the park, while the Bancroft and Whitney detachments are merging to cover the east. Northern areas will be supported by North Bay, Upper Ottawa Valley, and Almaguin Highlands detachments as needed.
The changes aim to boost police presence along Highway 60 and surrounding communities, while allowing better resource sharing and response capabilities.
