SUP's, canoes and kayaks are bound by law to carry safety equipment
The Huntsville OPP are reminding paddlers that canoes, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards are legally considered vessels — and that means safety gear is required.
If you're heading out on the water, you must carry a buoyant rope, a whistle, a watertight flashlight, and a magnetic compass. Officers say these are minimum requirements, and you can always bring more.
They also suggest letting someone know your route and when you expect to be back. Safe paddling starts with being prepared.
