The Grandparent scam is back along with charitable causes scams
OPP are urging residents to stay alert after two recent scams cost victims thousands of dollars in Muskoka.
Police say one victim was convinced to buy gift cards for what they believed was a local charitable cause. In another case, a so-called grandparent scammer claimed a family member was in trouble and needed urgent financial help.
Officers remind the public that fraudsters often create pressure and emotional distress to rush decisions.
Police say that if you receive a suspicious call, slow down, verify the information, and never share personal or banking details.
