Police say road treatments aren't working due to cold temperatures, requiring extra caution when driving in town.
OPP are issuing a warning to motorists following a surge in traffic collisions today, across the region. Officers report that many of these accidents are the direct result of drivers failing to adjust their speed for the icy road conditions currently affecting in-town streets.
In coordination with the Huntsville Roads Department, officials have determined that current temperatures are too low for road salt to be effective, and sand is failing to adhere to the frozen surfaces.
Drivers are urged to exercise extreme caution, particularly at intersections, which are reported to be in hazardous condition. Police ask drivers to slow down and allow for extra braking distance as crews continue to monitor the situation.
