The victims lost several thousand dollars in the scam
Bracebridge OPP are sounding the alarm after a local resident was targeted in a sophisticated banking scam.
Police say the victim received a call that appeared to come from their bank, complete with a matching phone number, and was told their account had been compromised.
A courier was then sent to the victim’s home to collect their bank card — and thousands of dollars were later withdrawn from the account.
Officers warn scammers are becoming more convincing and urge residents to never share banking information, slow things down, and verify calls independently.
