The funding supports lake health monitoring
The Province of Ontario is investing nearly half a million dollars to help protect Muskoka's lakes and waterways.
The District of Muskoka has received $479,750 from the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks to support its Lake System Health Water Quality Monitoring Program. The funding will allow staff to continue monitoring more than 70 lakes annually, collecting data on water quality, oxygen levels, nutrients and other environmental indicators.
District Chair Jeff Lehman says the investment supports the science and partnerships needed to protect Muskoka's watershed, while provincial officials say the program is key to preserving the region's lakes for residents, visitors and future generations.
