The day is being marked in Ottawa and around the country
A day of remembrance and awareness is being marked both nationally and locally for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Two-Spirit people.
A vigil is set for Parliament Hill as part of Red Dress Day, honouring those lost and calling for action. The red dress symbol was created by Métis artist Jaime Black to raise awareness of the ongoing crisis.
Closer to home, the Hope Arises Project in Huntsville has placed hand-sewn red dresses in downtown storefronts as a sign of remembrance and solidarity. Organizers say the display highlights the disproportionate violence faced by Indigenous women and aims to bring the community together in support of reconciliation.
