The displays will be in storefronts until May 5th
A local Indigenous-led initiative is drawing attention in Huntsville to Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls.
The Hope Arises Project has placed hand-sewn red dresses in downtown storefronts as a symbol of remembrance and solidarity.
Joyce Crone with the organization, says the display highlights ongoing violence and injustices facing First Nations, Métis and Inuit women and girls in Canada, who are disproportionately affected compared to non-Indigenous women.
Crone says the goal is community unity and meaningful reconciliation, with the dresses remaining on display until May 5th.
