The nest ignited in the chimney
Firefighters in Huntsville responded early Saturday to a chimney fire on Penfold Lake Road.
Flames were visible from the attic and side of the home when crews arrived. Thanks to the homeowner spotting charring on an interior wall and calling 911, firefighters were able to contain the blaze and save the main living area.
The fire was caused by a rodent nest igniting in the chimney. No injuries were reported. Fire officials remind residents to have chimneys inspected and cleaned, and to safely dispose of ashes, as the winter heating season begins.
