Geordie ran as the Liberal candidate against Conservative Scott Aitchison
Despite the announcement of the upcoming resignation of Conservative MP Scott Aitchison, Geordie Sabbagh says his focus remains squarely on local politics.
In a video statement released on Facebook yesterday, Sabbagh clarified that despite rumors of a potential run for the federal Liberals in Parry Sound–Muskoka, his current campaign for councillor in Huntsville’s Huntsville/Chaffey Ward will continue uninterrupted.
Sabbagh, who previously ran against Aitchison under the Liberal banner in the last federal election, took time in his video to congratulate his former opponent on his decades in public life. Sabbagh remarked that completing 30 years in public service was quite a feat, acknowledging Aitchison's long career serving the region at both the municipal and federal levels.
A federal by-election is expected to be called sometime in the new year to fill the vacant parliamentary seat.
