South River joins Burk's Falls opposing the project
Another Almaguin Highlands community is voicing opposition to a proposed lithium battery energy storage project.
The Village of South River has passed a resolution supporting Burk’s Falls in its stance against the SolarBank project in nearby Armour Township. Concerns include emergency response preparedness and the project’s proximity to local homes and nature.
SolarBank says the technology is safe and the site was chosen to meet Ontario’s electricity needs. The project has been approved by the province’s energy operator, but Armour Township has yet to make a final decision.
Construction could begin this fall if it gets the go-ahead.
