The Fire Dept. says that fire extinguisher training may have helped staff put out the fire before it spread
Firefighters are praising quick action at Muskoka Traditions Retirement Home in Huntsville this week.
The Fire Dept. says that on Tuesday, Muskoka Traditions staff discovered a small fire in a stairwell wall heater. Using a portable fire extinguisher, they put it out before it could spread, keeping residents safe and avoiding a full evacuation.
Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department says recent hands-on extinguisher training for staff played a key role in stopping the fire quickly.
Fire safety officials say this is a textbook example of how preparation and confidence with emergency equipment can prevent a minor incident from becoming a major disaster.
