Town of Bracebridge selected for a speed limit review

Friday, 14 August 2026 10:05

The initiative is a pilot project for the District

Bracebridge Deputy Mayor, Brenda Rhodes announced that the Town was selected for a speed limit review, in the August 12, 2026, Council meeting.

Rhodes told Council that the review is a pilot project for the District of Muskoka. She said, “We had asked for that speed limit review to happen and how the District is going to be managing the speed limit reviews.”

She summarized the applicable areas included in the review. She indicated that Muskoka Road 37, Cedar Lane, Entrance Drive, and Manitoba Street, “and that was to 40 and then Taylor Road, and that was 30.”

She gave a description of the applicable area as coming over the hill towards the downtown towards the tracks. She added, “That was a CN recommendation for that to happen to have people slow down in that area. So that has been approved.”

Muskoka Road 14, Cedar Lane and Fraserburg Road were also included, continued Rhodes. She said, “It was proposed to move to 70, but Committee decided to keep it at 60 for now, as we felt that there was a safety concern with the increase.”

She concluded that Uffington Road increased from 60 to 70.

Last month the Town indicated that it will also be installing updated speed limit signs on municipal rural roads as a part of changes Council approved in 2023 and in lieu of the new Transportation Master Plan.

They added, “Approximately 177 signs will be updated throughout the summer along with speed changes.”

They described the goal as “to improve stopping sight distances, lower risk of serious collisions, and make room for more accessible housing by easing driveway entrance requirements.”

They reminded motorists that speed limits will become enforceable upon the installation of the updated signs.
