MNRF say you can play a role in reducing the risk of wildfires around your property
Officials are reminding Muskoka residents that wildfire risk is increasing across Ontario, and that proactive steps at home can play a major role in reducing potential damage.
A presentation to Lake of Bays council from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry reviewed recent major fire seasons, noting that dry conditions, wind and forest fuels can rapidly intensify wildfire behaviour.
The FireSmart program was highlighted as a key tool, encouraging homeowners to create protective zones around structures by clearing combustibles near buildings and managing vegetation farther out to slow fire spread.
Fire officials say preparedness is a shared responsibility, and that applying these measures can improve property survival and strengthen community resilience during wildfire events.
