Health officials are warning residents to avoid drinking, swimming, or using the water after a harmful algae bloom was detected.
A harmful algae bloom has been confirmed in Old Man’s Lake near Magnetawan, and residents are being urged to take precautions.
The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit says the blue-green algae can produce toxins that irritate the skin and cause illness if swallowed.
Officials warn the toxins may remain in the water for weeks, even after the bloom disappears, and boiling or treating lake water will not make it safe.
The Health Unit advises residents to avoid drinking, swimming, or letting pets near the water until conditions improve.
