There will be extra charges for using black bags
The District of Muskoka is advising that starting January 2nd, all residents and businesses must use clear, colourless garbage bags at District waste facilities for their weekly allowance. The District will charge extra for Black or solid-coloured bags.
The Clear Bag Program, first introduced curbside in 2025, helps identify recyclables and hazardous materials, and allows up to two small opaque privacy bags per clear bag for personal items.
Since its launch, curbside organic collection has nearly doubled, with communities reducing garbage by 38 percent. District officials say the program helps extend the life of the Rosewarne Landfill and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
