Items left inside, during cleaning mode, resulted in heavy smoke
The Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department was called to a home for what was believed to be an appliance fire—but it turned out to be heavy smoke from an oven in self-cleaning mode.
The homeowner had accidentally left trays and racks inside, triggering the smoke.
Fire officials are reminding residents to always follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Self-cleaning ovens can hit temperatures over 500 degrees, and anything left inside can become a fire hazard.
