The Fire Dept. recommends having furnaces inspected prior to heating season
Fire crews from the Huntsville and Lake of Bays areas were kept busy last week with two separate furnace-related calls.
On back-to-back mornings, smoke alarms alerted residents in Huntsville and Port Cunnington to smoke and burning smells in their homes. Everyone got out safely and called 911. Firefighters found only a light haze of smoke, and furnace technicians later confirmed one case was caused by a melted wire inside the unit.
The fire department is reminding residents to have furnaces inspected before winter and to keep the area around heating systems clear of clutter.
