The change is being made due to several near misses
A Lake of Bays stop sign relocation is in the works for Walker Lake Drive.
In the November 11, 2025, Council meeting, staff reported public concern at the location with complaints regarding “several near misses as residents are entering Walker Lake Drive and traffic is entering the intersection from East Walker Lake Drive.”
Staff indicated that the same engineer consultant that conducted the Roads Needs study for the Township assessed the intersection and recommended they move the stop sign.
Staff presented the recommendation to Council for approval to move the stop sign from Walker Lake Drive to East Walker Lake Drive.
Councillor, Robert Lacroix, said that there were discussions about the matter in the past with recommendations to do the opposite and inquired about the change in strategy.
Staff indicated that according to Township records the signs in that area were placed prior to the development that’s currently there, and that a correction is required to fit with current standards.
They also advised that the existing By-law hasn’t been updated since 2009, therefore requires updating to current requirements as well.
Council approved the relocation of the stop sign and an update to the existing By-law.
Staff said they already ordered new signs, including one to notify the public about the upcoming change which will take effect November 17th.
