The Ministry of Education took control of the Near North School Board
MPP Graydon Smith is backing the province’s decision to take control of the Near North District School Board. Smith says he welcomes Education Minister Paul Calandra’s move and thanks him for taking decisive action. He adds the intervention should bring “stability and accountability” and help the board refocus on supporting students, respecting parents, and backing teachers and staff across West Parry Sound.
The takeover comes after a ministry investigation found trustees and the director of education were poorly informed and lacked accountability, causing delays at a Parry Sound K-to-12 school.
Smith says he’s hopeful the changes will restore community confidence and ensure students are put first.
