Parry Sound–Muskoka MPP Graydon Smith is criticizing the Near North District School Board for delays in completing the new $60-million JK–12 school in Parry Sound
Parry Sound–Muskoka MPP Graydon Smith is calling out the Near North District School Board for what he calls the mismanagement of the new $60-million Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12 school in Parry Sound.
Smith says the province funded the project with the expectation it would open for the 2025–26 school year, but students, parents, and educators are now facing “unclear, uncertain and unacceptable” delays.
The Board confirmed Thursday the school will not be ready for September.
JK to Grade 6 students will remain at McDougall Public School, Grades 9 to 12 will start the year at the current Parry Sound High School, and Grades 7 and 8 will attend Nobel Public School.
Students and staff will move into the new building once it’s complete, but there’s no firm timeline for when that will happen.
Smith is urging immediate action from the Board and says the Minister of Education should consider intervening to ensure accountability.
